Back to Work

Welcome to Trippy Monday’s, where I go over 3 things that caught my attention from this past week. Enjoy!

(1) I officially started working as a restaurant host, which I mentioned in this same newsletter about 4 weeks ago. This week was all training stuff, which is good because I’ve never worked in a restaurant or bar before. I had four shifts in total, and I still have one more training shift before I’m put in the regular rotation. I feel pretty good overall, and I’m excited to keep learning more and hopefully move into a different role at some point.

I have a lot of feelings going into this new job. It marks my first time being employed in about 7 months, which is truly wild to me. I’m more excited than I thought I’d be to get back to work. My previous job was in software sales making close to six figures, so this is obviously a huge change of pace from that too. It’s humbling going from that to then making just over $13 an hour plus tips, but not humbling in a bad way at all. Money used to be such a driving factor for me in deciding what I wanted to do for work, and in such a way that I was willing to sacrifice my own happiness to gain it. A lot has changed in the past 7 months. I’m much more focused on living a balanced life full of love and open to any and all possibilities. I would’ve scoffed at the idea of working in a restaurant before, but now I fully embrace it and can’t wait to see where my life takes me. A job is just a job at the end of the day, so might as well try them all out.

(2) My first podcast where I was the guest came out this week. Be sure to check out Bedside Coneys. Here’s the link to the episode on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. This podcast was started by one of my friends in Chicago, and we recorded it in person when I was there a couple of weeks ago. I love hosting The TripSitting Podcast, don’t get me wrong, but I absolutely loved being the guest for once. I try to focus on asking my guests questions as much as possible and hearing their perspectives whenever I record mine, so it was nice being able to open up more about my personal journey because the script was flipped. I like talking about myself sometimes, sue me. I’m stoked with how it turned out. Let me know if you give it a listen 🙂

(3) I’ll leave you with this quote I came across again, and felt the need to share with you all.

“My life has been full of terrible misfortunes, most of which never happened” – Michel de Montaigne
