Helping Out and Asking For help

Welcome to Trippy Monday, where I go over 3 things that caught my attention from this past week. Enjoy!

(1) My mom came to visit me this weekend. If you’ve been following me, you probably know by now that I’ve been working on my relationship with both of my parents during my healing journey. I was a bit nervous having her out here, I won’t lie – mainly because we still don’t talk very often and there were some things I felt I needed to get off my chest about our relationship. I was also a bit nervous to introduce her to my girlfriends, which is not something I’ve ever had an opportunity to do.

Everything went smoothly during her visit, but the highlight for me was last night, when we grabbed dinner just her and I and talked very openly about our relationship. I got to hear what she thought about us and the conversation opened up to a place where I felt it had been lacking for quite some time. It was just real – more real than it had been for most of my life. It brought me a lot of joy that she wanted to have that conversation with me as well. There is still a lot to work on given that changes like this don’t happen overnight, but it was a great start, and I look forward to continuing to build my relationship with her.

(2) I started working with Wisdom Peak Healing Center, which is a business here in Denver that offers mushrooms and other healing products to people who are part of the community. I’m excited to learn more about growing mushrooms at a larger scale and with the right equipment, as well as learning more about the community they’ve cultivated and meeting them. The business is currently run by Kayden and Payton, who are husband and wife, and they are very much still growing this business too. Part of why I’m there is to help with that process. This is a new partnership that is only starting out, so I look forward to seeing where this will go.

(3) I started doing some outreach in order to see if I can get some sponsorships or funding for my next TripSitting project, which is doing high-production video interviews while my guest and I are both tripping on mushrooms. I got a lot of non-responses, a couple of flat-out no’s, and some people who were interested and wanted to learn more. No actual funding or sponsors yet, but I’m only in the beginning phase. One of the most recent things that came up for me during a large-dose trip was that I have to get better at asking for help. This project is something I know I’m going to need help with. Not only that, but I think it will be a lot more fun to work on it with other people.

There isn’t really any content out there that actually shows people what people people are like while on psychedelics. I’m not trying to record people and make them talk to a camera right at the peak of a journey, but the idea to to do the interview once we’re on the comedown and be able to talk about some of the things that came up for us, as well as just have fun while trying to keep it together and be coherent enough to talk. I think being in this state will allow my guest and I to have a truly raw conversation about whatever comes up, and people will be more willing to share those things. I’m really passionate about this project and I know it’s going to be a journey in and of itself to find the right partners and guests to make it happen, but I cannot wait to see how it all comes together.
